Partners in Conversation was officially founded by Kayla
Satterlund, speech and language pathologist in the
Brainerd Lakes area. She is a mom to two children, one a
little boy with complex medical needs. The need for
more ways to access high quality, speech and language
intervention in the Brainerd Lakes area became a reality
for her personally and thus, Partners in Conversation
was started.
"I am so excited to provide families with a way of
receiving in home, private speech services outside of the
resources they may already be accessing. I have been a
speech and language pathologist in a variety of settings
including: inpatient, outpatient, and school settings. I
love to work with both children and adults. My passion
lies in building relationships with families, and
supporting adults and children alike to share stories and
advocate for their needs." -Kayla
The in home model brings therapy into your home
and family routine. Research shows that repetition,
specificity, and frequency of speech and language
intervention matter. By bringing therapy into your
home, we are able to partner together to hit all
three of these therapy principles and meet speech
and language goals quickly.
Families are expected to be active participants,
and will learn valuable skills for supporting and
improving speech and language development at
home. The speech and language pathologist will
provide direct instruction and intervention during
in person visits, but will also provide home
programming and resources for families to work
on speech and language goals in the context of
daily routines. The goal of this delivery model is to
decrease the need for direct instruction from a
speech and language pathologist over time and
empower families to see progress themselves.
This is the first step to initiate services with Partners in Conversation. A consultation is provided over the phone to better understand your family's needs. You and the speech therapist will determine if an initial evaluation is a good fit for your family. You will also discuss other resources available for your child or loved one outs
This is the first step to initiate services with Partners in Conversation. A consultation is provided over the phone to better understand your family's needs. You and the speech therapist will determine if an initial evaluation is a good fit for your family. You will also discuss other resources available for your child or loved one outside of Partners in Conversation, including school based supports (if applicable) and outpatient options.
This service includes a combination of family interview, observation, and speech and language testing. After the evaluation is completed, findings will be explained and the family, along with the speech and language pathologist will create a plan of care. No treatment is required after this step! Some families use this option as a way to gather objective information.
.
The initial 30 minutes will include direct instruction for goals identified during the evaluation process. Family members are encouraged to be part of this. The final 30 minutes will include planning and practicing ways to incorporate newly learned skills in daily routines. Group treatment is also available! So, if you have multiple children with speech needs or a friend, let's collaborate!
When signing on for intervention,
the price is clear and not
dependent on terms like:
deductible, out of pocket max,
etc. The price is reasonable
because insurance isn't dictating
reimbursement rates.
If testing and family input indicate a need,
service is offered. No need for doctor's
referrals, formal tests, unnecessary
paperwork, or phone calls between your
therapist and insurance company to
discuss services. The duration and
frequency of treatment is not dependent
on insurance so plan of care can be more
individualized and more time can be time
spent with YOU and your family and not
completing these other tasks. resting about your business here.
Practice makes perfect. Your loved
one's likelihood to meet speech and
language goals is highly dependent
on how often he/she is able to
practice their skills. When
opportunities to master skills happen
outside of direct instruction in
addition to time with a speech and
language pathologist, goals are met
more efficiently. Years of therapy can
be reduced to several months when
everyone is on board.
Partners in Conversation is also able to partner with school districts for any speech and language needs. We are able to provide screenings, initial evaluations, treatments, medical assistance billing, communication with families and staff, and completion of all necessary paperwork for IEPs and MDE requirements.
